Handwriting Education

If you are a therapist or have used the Handwriting Without Tears® program, you can use your knowledge to educate others about Handwriting Without Tears and tutor students.

Educate Others

Colleagues

You can educate teachers and administrators by introducing the program to a few students in need of extra help, presenting an in-service, or sharing the positive results you experienced with HWT.

Parents

Parents are your best source of support because they will talk about the results their children are having using the program. Plan a short presentation to a PTA meeting. Encourage teachers to use HWT as a measure of the child’s progress at parent-teacher conferences. Invite parents to an evening in-service on the HWT method. Plan a short in-service for parents interested in ways to help their children practice handwriting over the summer.

Develop Home Programs for Children

Often, teachers will ask for either an OT evaluation or for suggestions on how to deal with handwriting problems. If you can’t service a child directly, parents can be responsible for a home program. This is also a great way to promote HWT to teachers and parents. Before you send home a home program, meet with the parents and let them know that their child has been recommended for additional writing practice and you have suggestions for them.

Tutoring

If you have a passion for helping children with handwriting, consider becoming a tutor. Many children need extra help with handwriting. Most teachers and school systems lack the time or resources to provide one-on-one services for those falling behind in handwriting.

Investigate the need for a handwriting services in your area. Concerned parents are trying to find qualified individuals who can tutor in handwriting and make a difference in their child’s academic performance. Tutoring children in handwriting is a flexible and rewarding way to earn income from your home. The Handwriting Without Tears Level I Certification process offers resources and help in setting up your tutoring business.

Why it Works

Handwriting Without Tears® is a proven success in making legible and fluent handwriting an easy and automatic skill for all students.
