Why does
Handwriting Without Tears use double-lined paper?

With so many different types of lined paper and so many styles, children need to learn printing and cursive on paper that will prepare them for it all. HWT double lines quickly teach children how to place letters properly. Small letters fit in the middle space, tall letters go in the top space, descending letters go in the bottom space. Learn more about why double lines work!

HWT DELIVERS MAIL TO THE CHIEF!

Many thanks to the more than 34,000 children across the country--and the world--who wrote Mail to the Chief in honor of National Handwriting Day 2009.

On March 18, Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen hosted a reception for children, educators and parents from Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia who participated in the campaign.

Congressman Van Hollen presented Handwriting Without Tears with an award of recognition from the United States Congress. The Congressman has arranged delivery of all the letters to the White House this week!

  • Watch a VIDEO of the delivery
  • View a SLIDESHOW of photos from the delivery
  • Read EXCERPTS from the letters of advice and well-wishes
  • Read & watch NEWS COVERAGE the letters have received all over the country

Why handwritten letters? Handwriting is more than a style—it’s a thought process. It’s the primary way elementary students communicate. Handwriting promotes an organized approach to communication, maximizes thinking time, and boosts creativity. Use National Handwriting Day as an opportunity for your students to show their pride in their written work by writing to the new leader of our country!
