Here are some ideas to help you and your students celebrate National Handwriting Day.
Tell us about your favorite handwritten artifact
- Ask kids to bring in something meaningful to themselves or their families to share with the class
- Have students create their own handwritten letters, notes, poems, etc., and think about why something handwritten might be more memorable
Learn about John Hancock and the American Revolution
- Discuss why the act of signing the Declaration of Independence was so meaningful for the American colonists
Create a classroom "Declaration" of your own
- Have students vote on an issue of importance to them
- Ask them to write their own "declaration" on the issue, and sign it in their best handwriting!
We hope these activity suggestions spark your students' creativity. We look forward to hearing about what your students are doing to celebrate the art of writing in their lives!
