The earlier children master handwriting, the more likely they are to succeed in school. With the adoption of the Common Core State Standards, the emphasis and expectations placed on classroom note-taking and expository writing in grades K–5 is greater than ever.

Our Handwriting Standards

Handwriting standards provide guidance for assessing students’ handwriting skills at every level—from printing to cursive. In this section, you will find handwriting standards for each grade level from kindergarten through grades 4+. 
 

  
  
  

  

The Common Core State Standards

The Common Core State Standards include English Language Arts (ELA) and Math skills that increase expectations in grades K–5 for student writing and reading.

Pre-K Standards

For children to reach the standards set forth in the Common Core State Standards, especially the rigorous demands of kindergarten, they need to have a solid foundation. That foundation is built in Pre-K.
